I wrote this pattern for either gusset and thumb, or without thumb. Size is for a medium woman’s hand, but easily can be made larger or smaller. Simply decrease or increase the number of stitches cast on to accommodate the measurement of the largest part of your hand. Measure around your hand just below your knuckles. If you measure an inch more you would add 6 stitches to the cast on and work pattern with 46 stitches. If you need it an inch smaller cast on less stitches. Consider if you want your mitt to fit loose or tight. This mitt fits me with a slight amount of positive ease so that I could slide it over another pair of thin gloves for colder weather.
You can use any heavy sport yarn. I love working with hand spun yarn. I like the small imperfections in handspun. It feels rustic and organic to me.
I only used one skein of 150 yards. If you make your glove longer than mine, you will need slightly more. I also used some scraps of color for a few 1 row stripes. I did not write this into the pattern.
I used double point size 5 needles, you can use any method of knitting in the round that you are familiar with. You are essentially knitting a tube and then adding a thumb. (or not)
Have fun.
