This pattern can be easily adjusted for any size hat by simply adjusting the length of the beginning foundation, always remembering to have an EVEN number of beginning HDC. I always use a Foundation HDC chain, but it can be done by simply chaining the appropriate amount of chains and then doing a HDC in each chain on the return trip - remember that the first row of the pattern is NOT the foundation HDC row, but the first row of alternating FPDC/BPDC.

I have also done a hat using Back Loop Only HDC as it creates a bit of texture to the finished product.
