I never swatch for gauge. This is a very bad habit.I measured the hat when it was finished and blocked to get my gauge. Also, when I made this hat I mixed a DK and a worsted, which may throw off the gauge. It worked out okay in the end. The green was the Lion Brand Superwash merino worsted and the red is a HAND wash Dalegarn Heilo DK.

The yardage of the green yarn was 87 yards and I still had a bit left over when i was done (FOR THE SMALLER HAT that will generally fit someone whos head is 22.5 inches or 56 CM- my head is 23.5in and it almost fits perfectly so I assume an inch smaller head should be able to wear it without difficulty). The Dalegarn is 109 yards and I believe I only used about 30 of that. Since you’re getting two colors, as long as the yardage is over 100 for each ball, you should be safe! You can ALWAYS finish with the darker color if you run out of the lighter color before complete. It will still look right!

If you are using worsted only I would suggest swatching for gauge as my gauge is with mixed sized yarn, however similar they seemed to be.

I swear this is an easy hat to make. PROMISE!

IF YOUVE NEVER USED A CHART BEFORE: THIS IS A GOOD ONE TO START WITH!
