Designed for teaching beginning circular knitting this is a very simple pattern. It can be made with DK, worsted, aran, or light bulky weight yarns. I highly recommend going down a size or two for the ribbing, especially with the heavier yarns.

The model was made using #6 needles for the ribbing and #7 for the body of the hat, going to double point needles to finish the crown decreases.

Gauge given is for DK weight.

12/21/09 Errata: There is copying error in the pattern that will be fixed asap. There should only be 1” of ribbing between the last eyelet pattern and the crown decreases.

1/3/09 Pattern on site is now fixed but it has come to my attention that if the hat is made with a true bulky or superbulky (a gauge of 3 st per inch or less) then cast on stitches should be adjusted down in increments of 8 to 80 or 88 and use the smallest size needles that give a not too stiff fabric and only do two eyelet pattern repeats. With the aran/light bulky weights I’ve used I’ve still used the #6 & #7 needles and get gauge of 4.25 st. per inch.

I’ll ask for these changes to be added to the pattern as soon as possible.
