This ponytail hat is fun to make and quick to knit. Using only knit and purl stitches to created the ridged texture, it’s a good pattern for a beginner or a fast project for someone more experienced.

Overview: The hat is worked flat and the button bands are worked right along with the main part of the hat, so there is no seaming and no picking up stitches. The buttons allow you to wear a ponytail high, low, or in between - perfect for walking the trails (or the dog!).

Yarn requirements: The pattern calls for just 100-150 yards worsted weight yarn (gauge 20 stitches/4”). This pattern works well with both solids/tonals and variegated/handpainted yarn. A fuzzy yarn with a “halo” of fiber from yarns including mohair or alpaca works well, too, but a very textured yarn such as a boucle will tend to obscure the ridged texture of the hat.

Difficulty: Beginner.

Pattern support: Designer email is included in the pattern in case you have questions.
