I could not resist creating a fun shortie sock dedicated to eggs and the chickens who lay them for us. This is also a perfect sock for any chicken owners out there. My sister is unable to own a cat or a dog because of her partner’s allergy to fur, so she rescues chickens instead. She now often has a chicken coming to visit in the evening to sit and watch TV with the family (not advised, they’re quite messy!). So, this pattern is dedicated to my sister and her beloved brood of hens.

Construction Notes
This shortie sock (can be adapted for a longer sock too), is knit from the top down with a short twisted-rib cuff. It has a chicken colorwork section which includes some duplicate stitches for the chicken’s beak and wattle (a new word for me!). The leg is knit with an easy-to-memorize textured pattern on the foot and has a ribbed heel flap and gusset. The sock is completed with an “egg toe,” which is created using a small section of colorwork.
