Here’s another stranded sock pattern using Elaine’s Happy Heel construction. I designed these for my mom, Elaine, for her 93rd birthday. Since it’s in February, I thought I’d throw a few hearts into the design!

  • Twisted ribbing at the top provides a tidy, stretchy ribbing
  • Simple “Elaine’s Happy Heel” heel, with no short rows or wrap and turns, yeah! Detailed heel instructions are included as a separate tutorial file.
  • No gusset, but advanced knitters may choose to add one after coming out of the heel. This would require working the gusset in the continuous stranded instep and altering the toe sts count.
  • Classic wedge toe construction

The download for the pattern includes two files: The Elaine’s Fair Heart Sock pattern and also Elaine’s Happy Heel tutorial file.

Also included in the sock pattern are links to the fair isle charts on Stitch Fiddle (in the two color schemes) so you can use their handy “Progress Tracker” to follow along the chart, rnd by rnd.

In addition to your knitting needles, you’ll need a small gauge crochet hook to pickup the stitches for making the Elaine’s Happy Heel.
