I cherish elephants from the make-believe to the real. Teased for my oversize ears as a child, I identified deeply with Dumbo and Babar, and over the years, I have supported various initiatives for elephant preservation. I watch every elephant special that crosses my screen. I created this mask as both homage and evocation of these beautiful, intelligent cohabitants of our world.

Fabric Stiffener

In choosing a particular yarn /fiber for the mask, consider how/whether that yarn is sufficiently stiff or how it reacts to your chosen stiffening agent and then subsequently, how does it feel on your face. Depending on the yarn you use, you may not need to stiffen the mask. Shaping and light blocking were sufficient on the cotton, the acrylic (light colored) seemed to require a bit of stiffening.
