Elinor Tunic
The empire-waisted dresses of Jane Austen’s time inspired this
tunic named after Elinor Dashwood of Sense and Sensibility. In the BBC film adaptation a dress layered over a light
weight shawl was a common sight, especially amongst the Miss Dashwoods whom I assume did so as a
means to adjust to the lower economic standing after Mr. Dashwood’s death. To conserve yarn and time, this
pattern creates that same layered look by stitching a faux shawl inset knitted from a complimentary yarn into the
neckline. Pair this tunic with leggings and ballet flats or skinny jeans and boots for an Austen-inspired contemporary
look.
