The Emma Shawlette was inspired by the contest hosted on the Jane Austen’s Girls Swap group on Ravelry. Emily of AndersMill and I consulted the photos of group members’ favorite scenes to pull inspiration for a custom colorway and a custom design…and here it is!

{from the group conversation/posting} My Dear Janeites, For the month of March we here at Jane Austen’s Girl’s Swap have linked up with the team of Anders Mill to bring you a contest in honor of our beloved Author.

This has been really wonderful and I hope you all enjoy the colorway. Yellow was a struggle for me, creating the correct tones without to much blue or green overtones was quite the adventure!

I think I hit upon just the right note here though one that I think should complement each of our skin tones and one that Miss Austen herself might wear:)

The photo which won the contest (and at the center) is from the recent BBC mini-series adaptation of “Emma” starring Romola Garai and Johnny Lee Miller. The scene takes place at the end of the story, and I always picture daffodils. This is just after Emma and Mr. Knightley decide to be married, and after their ceremony they visit the seashore.

Thus, the shawlette I’ve designed incorporates beaded florals along the top edge and a gentle wave pattern along the curved/increase & decrease edge. It is knitted side to side and allows for customization in several steps of the construction.

Thanks to the group for the inspiration, and I hope you enjoy the Emma Shawlette!
