Enclosed Point of View shows off a technique I like to call “Point of View” cables. The scarf uses a modified version of Barbara Walker’s Enclosed Cable II as a starting point and then makes clever use of the background stitches to make an equally attractive cable pattern on the wrong side. Now you don’t have to worry about which side of the scarf is showing!

Materials

  • 4 (5, 6) skeins of Valley Yarns Amherst (worsted weight, 100% merino wool; 109 yds/50 g skein) in Stone Blue
  • 1 set US size 5 (3.75mm) straight needles, or size required for gauge
  • 1 set US size 3 (3.25mm) straight needles
  • Cable needle

Skills Required

  • Knitting and purling
  • Cables - Knit/Knit and Knit/Purl

Notes

Charts are written out so pattern can be worked without them. Pattern cannot be worked from charts alone.

RS and WS are separated into 2 separate charts. Chart 1 is for RS rows and Chart 2 is for WS. Both charts are read right to left.

Gauge is not critical for this project but may change the amount of yarn required. It is recommended you knit and block a swatch with a couple of repeats of the cable repeat to see if you like the final product. If it is too dense then you should up the needle size, but be sure to do the same for the smaller needle as well.
