Now more than ever, we all need to do our part to reduce our dependence on oil and gas. Recent devastating geo-political events as well as the ongoing struggle to combat global climate change highlight the importance of both sourcing energy in a cleaner renewable fashion as well as being more efficient in its use.

In a 3/26/22 article in The Guardian, Amory Lovins, chair of the Rocky Mountain Institute and professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford University, suggests that in addition to emphasizing the use of renewables and increasing energy efficiency in manufacturing and building design, we might also seek out other creative and immediate solutions.

One idea he offers is “a mass movement to knit millions of cheery yellow and blue woolly hats” coupled with the wearers turning down their thermostats by two to three degrees to save billions of cubic meters of gas.

Let’s do it!

Here is a quick, simple and fun slouchy hat pattern. Knit one for yourself and your friends and family and make the pledge to reduce your heating usage in the cold months. All proceeds from the sale of this pattern will benefit the Ukrainian Red Cross. All savings in energy cost and usage will benefit the world!
