The wrap gets its intricate coloration from the usage of self-striping yarn in combination with Tunisian Entrelac crochet. The pattern is made up of 2 alternating lines using a regular crochet hook, although it is helpful to have some knowledge of the simple Tunisian (Afghan) stitch.
