Erica is inspired by the early autumn walks on the heather heathlands of North Norfolk. ‘Erica’ is the Latin name for the heather plant.

This cosy shawl is knitted in one piece beginning at the bottom lace edge. The gradual crescent shape is made by working short rows in the stocking stitch section.

The gentle crescent shape means it is really a cross between a scarf and a shawl, it can be tied or draped in a variety of ways making it quite a handy little accessory.

‘Erica’ has a lovely scalloped lace design with the addition of nupps or beads (optional).

Although inspired by fresh autumnal days and a soft cosy Dk yarn, the pattern works equally well with lighter weight yarns for those wanting a daintier, smaller shawl for fresh summer days.
I have included the alternatives for a slightly narrower shawl (that could be used on either DK or 4ply versions) and dimensions for both Dk and 4ply shawls.

Grey shawl pictures are from a test knitters 4ply shallower crescent version without nupps/beads

Notes: Although gauge isn’t hugely important in this pattern it’s still worth swatching to ensure that you get a fabric that you like and that drapes nicely. As always gauge will affect yardage.
