The magic of mosaic stitch pairs with a built-in striped garter stitch border to create the Erlen Shawl.

Worked from the base to the tip, the slipped stitch mosaic pattern is rhythmic and easy to read.

Using a gradient yarn creates the visual movement throughout the shawl; using two solid colors is equally impressive.

The mosaic instructions are charted only.

The finished measurements of the shawl are a wingspan of approximately 54” and a center depth of 22”. These measurements are taken after blocking and may vary, depending on how vigorously you block the shawl.

You will need:

  • Fingering weight yarn, approx. 310 yards each of Color A and Color B.
  • US size 5 (3.75 mm) 32” needle, or size needed to obtain gauge. The shawl is worked flat; the long needle is to accommodate the large number of stitches. As you decrease stitches, switch to a shorter needle if you find that to be more comfortable.
  • Yarn needle
  • Optional: removable stitch markers; blocking wires

The skill level is Advanced Beginner/Intermediate.
