Update: I realized the pattern didn’t explicitly say to jog the rows to get the checkered look. So I tried to fix the pattern on my “blog”. Hopefully that helps - although all the non-checkered ones look great too! How versatile…. it’s how I designed it, I swear.

I saw a hat at Evo, a snowboarding shop in Seattle and I loved but…but as a knitter, how could I spend $28 on a knit hat that I knew I could make myself. So I ran out to the car for a pen and some paper and got to work writing down the pattern as best I could. This is what I came up with.

Also, another note…the hat pictured was knit on size 9 needles and it is very big. I recommend size 8 needles, which is what the pattern now says.

This is my first pattern =)

This is available online at my blog until I can figure out how to put it on Ravelry.

Additional Gauge Info: For large hat: 14 stitch and 24 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch, using US 9 (5.5mm) needles.
