This pattern is for an extra-large traditional Christmas stocking with a choice of a fluffy cuff or a rolled cuff, with optional pompoms and embroidery.

The stocking is large enough to hold a great array of gifts.

The stocking is knitted in the round on circular or double pointed needles. This pattern assumes you know how to knit in the round, but does include comprehensive instructions to take you through the process of creating a heel using short rows.

ECO-CREDENTIALS: best made from natural yarns so that it will eventually biodegrade (but not until it’s been used for many, many years)! Use either snuggly wool and wool boucle, or super-soft organic (or recycled) cotton for the most eco-friendly stocking imaginable!

YARN:
Body: around 100 to 130g of any worsted or weight wool or cotton (I used Cascade Eco+, KnitPicks Bare Andes del Campo or KnitPicks Simply Cotton Organic Worsted Yarn)
Fluffy cuff: (optional) around 13g of any natural fur or boucle yarn (I used KnitPicks Bare Alpaca-Merino Boucle)
Embroidery/trims: (optional) a few grams of any worsted, aran or chunky weight wool or cotton in a contrasting colour

Needles: US 9 / UK 5 / 5.5mm – either double pointed needles or two lengths of circular: 40cm / 16” for the body and a longer one for magic loop at the toe (instructions for magic loop only)

Other:
• Tapestry needle for sewing in ends
• Tape measure
• Small pompom maker (optional)
