The Fading Tweed Shawl is a dramatic and versatile piece that is sure to turn heads.

The unusual shape of this shawl allows it to be worn in many different ways to achieve a variety of looks. Create sleeves by using pedestal buttons; add a shawl pin and wear it as a cape; wear it upside down. It’s all up to you.

The gradient fade is achieved by holding fingering-weight yarns double throughout, which makes the knitting go fairly quickly.

Starting at the lower edge, the center panel is knit up to the neckline, then stitches are picked up along either side to form wings. The contrasting neckband is worked using a few short rows to give a little shaping to the collar area. Then, as a finishing touch, contrast bands of garter stitch are added to each remaining edge.
