Mary Jane Mucklestone likes to knit hats as a way to experiment with color combinations and Fair Isle patterns.  This stocking cap explores a "limited" palette of fourteen colors (Mary Jane has used as many as thirty in a single project), with one color grouping for the pattern and another for the background.  An occasional dab of a bright color in the center row of a motif gives a contemporary look to otherwise traditional patterns.

Many of the original colors have been discontinued. By using a mix of Jamieson & Smith and Jamieson’s Spindrift, you can come very close. Of course, making up your own colors may be the most fun of all! I include approximate amounts for that.
