a bulkier version of the staggered-cable hat from the tv show fairly legal – which I have never seen! but, i liked the hat, and needed a hat, and had some yarn, so… if you really wanted it to look more like the one in the show, it would be pretty easy to use fingering and cast on twice as many stitches. the cable pattern is worked across 26 sts and 24 rows. you may on occasion find yourself with an extra purl between cables when you’re ending one row and beginning the next, but that’s ok. it will get used up eventually.

this is a fairly easy pattern - knit, purl, knit-2-together, slip-slip-knit, knit-into-front-and-back-of-a-stitch, and some simple cabling are all you need to know.
