In 2015 I designed the original hat called Fairytale Winter. I always loved this hat due to the deep folded brim and the sweet lace design on the body of the hat. This winter I keep finding myself wearing my old Fairytale Winter hat day after day so I decided to revisit the pattern and give it a refresh. It’s a great hat to knit and an even better hat to wear. It’s also the perfect gift knit.

New things about the hat? I updated the pattern and I changed the lace chart to include some sweet bobbles in a couple of key spots. The pattern includes an exclusive video tutorial link for the bobble. The yarn is now our Barrett Wool Co. Home Worsted in the Picket Fence colorway which is the creamiest shade of white. I have always wanted a winter-white hat and now I have one! The pattern is written for a 20-inch circumference at the brim. The hat is very stretchy and will fit a wide variety of sizes, smaller and larger.

Yarn: Barrett Wool Co. Home Worsted (240 yards/100 grams; 100% American Wool), 1 skein. Sample is in the Picket Fence colorway.

Yarn note: The finished sample weighs 85 grams. If you’re worried about running out of yarn with a 100 gram skein, the long 1 by 1 ribbed brim is the perfect place to modify by doing fewer rounds to shorten by an inch or two.
