CHARITY PATTERN

INTRODUCTION
Introducing the second in the Falasteen pattern series.
This Falasteen Cowl is a shorter version of the Falasteen Long Cowl.
The pattern offers a knitted version of the traditional patterns of the Palestinian Keffiyeh, a scarf that is symbolic of Palestinian identity and their hope for independence.
The name ‘Falasteen’ is the english transliteration of the arabic word for Palestine.

The knitted sections represent the three main symbolic patterns within the woven keffiyeh, these being Bold Lines, Olive Leaves and Fishnet.
The pattern uses single colours and texture to achieve this, making it easier than stranded colourwork.
I wanted to create a knitted version that contained of all these symbolic patterns to highlight the plight of the Palestinian people and their struggle to gain freedom and independence. It is hoped that those making and wearing this design will do so knowing and embracing the symbolism within the piece.

ALL proceeds from the sale of this pattern will be donated to a charity committed to providing medical care and humanitarian assistance to the besieged and injured civilians of Palestine.

This Cowl is knitted in the round and consists of 7 sections, and is edged in rib.
It can be worn ruched around the neck or over the head as a wide headband.

I have used the traditional Palestinian colours of red, green, black and white in muted, vintage shades. But you can use any colours of your choosing. The keffiyeh scarf comes in many different colours, a quick internet search will provide much colour inspiration.
