I co-host the podcast Never Cast off Podcast. You can find us on YouTube and on Ravelry. In 2017, we are running a stash reduction challenge along with the Fiber Pusher Podcast. I wanted to do a quick, simple knit, so I grabbed some chunky loopy alpaca to help reduce some of my stash quickly. I saw a shawl that had dropped stitches running, and it reminded me of the style of jeans with all of the controlled rips that are so popular. The style just seemed to match.

About the Pattern:

This is an easy project, great for brain-dead knitting, distracted knitting or for the beginner. It’s a garter stitch pattern, so it’s mostly just using the knit stitch. Do you have any fun yarn that needs a project that can showcase the yarn and needs a simple project? Do you have some chunky yarn that you hope for a quick to complete project? This pattern is designed for that yarn.

Skill level: Beginner. Stitches are knit only, no purl.
Dimensions of cowl: The main construction is a Mobius cowl (twisted infinity scarf).
Width: 14.5 inches / 37 cm, length 19 inches / 48 cm
Materials:
• Needles: US 13 / 9 mm
• Yarn: Approximately 185 yards of chunky yarn held together with fingering weight yarn. For the sample, I used two 100-gram skeins of Alpaca Loop by Plymouth Yarn, color 2055. Each 100-gram skein has approximately 93 yards. I held a second thinner yarn with the Alpaca Loop yarn to give it a little pop of color, using approximately 31 grams. Differing weight yarn can change the yardage needed to complete the project at the specified dimensions.
• Tapestry needle to weave in ends
• Two stitch markers (at least one that is removable, like a safety pin)

Gauge: 9 stitches / 9 garter bumps per 4 inches / 10 cm in garter not blocked. Exact gauge is not critical, but it can affect size of garment and yardage needed to complete the project.

Definitions:
• KFB – increase 1 stitch by knitting in the front and back loop of the same stitch
• Run – a column of dropped stitches.
