This pattern reminds me of the falling maple and oak leaves in North America, and how it is time to layer on the clothes. But in the autumn where I live, it warms up a bit in the afternoon, so I like to wear fingerless mitts when I drive or walk in the morning. They are small enough to fit in my bag when the day warms.

I divided the yarn in half, not knowing exactly how long the mitts would end up being, but still wanting to use up all the yarn AND I knitted them at the same time using 2 circular needles as some people do to knit socks or sleeves. I ended up with only 4 yards left!

I have small to medium sized hands and they fit perfectly for me. If you want to make them bigger or longer, then you will need to have more yarn.

I recommend using fall or autumn colors or variegated yarn to bring out the Twin Leaf stitch pattern…you may even want to make another pair in greens and yellows for Spring Leafing Out.
