The Farfelues Socks are, as their name suggests, quirky in their construction. This is a toe-up pattern, but it begins with a provisional cast-on so that the round starts under the middle of the foot. The design highlights a mosaic stitch pattern that appears both on the body of the sock and on the heel. The heel is worked using increases, decreases, and a short-row section. It gives the sock a funny shape when laid flat, but it fits the foot very well and has the advantage of featuring an adjustable gusset for the instep.

Each size has 4 insteps possibilities.

Material

• Yarn: Fingering 4 ply – Between 100 and 300 m of MC, between 30 and 120 m of CC.

The original adult version was knitted using Tourbillon Amande fing by Squirrel’s Yarns (75% merino, 25% nylon, 212 m / 50 g), double gradient, colorway Lantana (MC) + Drops Fabel (75% wool, 25% nylon, 205 m / 50 g), colorway White (CC). The child version uses Fabel in a varied blue colorway (MC) and Burgundy (CC).

As an indication, I used:

• 105 m of MC and 62 m of CC per sock for a size 23, instep 9 cm, EU size 38, leg height 11 cm.

• 52 m of MC and 31 m of CC for a size 15/16, instep 6 cm, EU size 26, leg height 6 cm.

• Circular needles 2 mm and 2.5 mm (or the size needed to obtain gauge).

• 1 beginning-of-round marker (BoRM) + 2 additional markers.

• A needle to graft the toes

Sizes

Sizes are given according to foot circumference at the widest point, usually just below the toes, in cm: (10/11, 13/14, 15/16) (18/19, 21/22, 23/24, 25/26). If you are between two sizes, choose the larger one, as mosaic stitch has little stretch.

Gauge

• 32 sts x 60 rnds = 10 cm in mosaic stitch worked in the round, washed, blocked, and dry (with 2.5 mm needles for me).

• 32 sts x 48 rnds = 10 cm in stockinette stitch in the round, washed, blocked, and dry (with 2 mm needles for me).

It is very important to meet both gauges if you want the correct size.

Les chaussettes Farfelues sont, comme leur nom l’indique, farfelues dans leur construction. C’est un modèle toe-up mais qui commence par un montage provisoire afin que le rang commence au milieu du pied dessous. C’est un modèle qui met en avant un point mosaïque que l’on retrouve tant sur le corps de la chaussette que sur le talon. Ce dernier est tricoté à base d’augmentations, de diminutions et d’une section en rangs raccourcis. Il donne une drôle de tête à la chaussette à plat mais il épouse très bien le pied et a l’avantage d’avoir un gousset adaptable au cou-de-pied.

Chaque taille propose 4 cous-de-pied différents.

Matériel :

• Fil : Fingering 4ply - Entre 100 et 300 m de CP, entre 30 et 120 m de CC.

La version adulte originale a été tricotée avec la Tourbillon Amande fing de Squirrel’s Yarns (75% mérinos, 25% nylon, 212 m / 50 gr), double gradient coloris Lantana (CP) + Fabel drops (75% laine, 25% nylon, 205 m / 50 gr), coloris blanc (CC). La version enfant est en Fabel coloris bleu varié (CP) et burgundy (CC).

À titre indicatif j’ai utilisé:

• 105 m de CP et 62 m de CC par chaussette, pour une taille 23, cou-de-pied 9 cm, pointure 38FR, tige de 11 cm.
• 52 m de CP et 31 m de CC, pour une taille 15/16, cou-de-pied 6 cm, pointure 26 cm, tige de 6 cm.

• Aiguilles circulaires 2 mm et 2, 5 mm (ou la taille nécessaire pour obtenir les échantillons).

• 1 marqueur de début de rang (MdR) + 2 autres marqueurs.

• une aiguille pour grafter les orteils.

Tailles :

Les tailles sont données en fonction du tour de pied au point le plus fort, généralement juste sous les orteils, en cm : (10/11, 13/14, 15/16) (18/19, 21/22, 23/24, 25/26).

Si vous êtes entre deux tailles, choisissez la plus grande, le point mosaïque étant peu extensible.

Échantillon

• 32 m x 60 rg = 10 cm selon le point mosaïque en rond, lavé, bloqué et sec (en aiguilles 2.5 mm pour moi).

• 32 m x 48 rg = 10 cm en jersey en rond, lavé, bloqué et sec (en aiguilles 2 mm pour moi).

Il est très important de respecter ces deux échantillons si vous voulez obtenir la bonne taille.
