These are my absolute favorite work socks! They are easy to make, built to withstand the wear and tear of a full day’s work, fit like a glove, and are thin and stretchy enough to fit in all of my work shoes. And, when they do eventually get worn through on the bottom, there are lots of available loops inside which makes darning them a breeze. But the best thing of all is that there is no heel to make!!!! Just a simple join up the back of the foot.
This pattern is written for sturdy, affordable, superwash wool/nylon sport weight sock yarn. Sock yarn that’s not too fine or pretentious, so you can make lots of them without straining your eyes or your budget!

Size: Fits an average sized woman’s foot and leg. (US 7 – 9)

Hook: US C 2 / 2.75 mm
Note: It is very important to use a tight tension for this pattern. The hook size will probably feel too small for the job at first, but if you keep the tension tight (especially on the toe), and are vigilant about not splitting the strands of yarn, it will be alright.

Safety Pin Style Stitch Markers:
At least 4 orange and 4 blue stitch markers. The more you have, the better.

Main Color
332 yds/304 m 75% wool/25% nylon washable sport weight or sock yarn that is not fine
Note: You will need more if you choose to not use a contrast color.
Suggested yarn: Patons Kroy Socks FX
Alternative options: Noro Silk Garden Sock, Earl Grey Fiber Matcha Sport

Optional Contrast Color
166 yds/152 m 75% wool/25% nylon washable yarn same weight and size as main color
Note: You will need more if you make a really long section of ribbing.

Reinforcement Yarn
3 bobbin cards (each card is 41m/5g) 75% wool/25% nylon lace weight darning-filler yarn
Note: You can make these socks without the reinforcement yarn, but if you chose not to the fit won’t be quite as good and stitches on the bottom of the foot eventually thin and develop spaces in between them that might make the socks uncomfortable to wear. Reinforcement yarn is usually available in high end yarn shops or online. It adds strength to the bottom of the toe, foot, and heel.
Suggested yarn:
Ragia Darning and Reinforcement Thread
Lang Jawoll Reinforcement Bobbins
Schoeller and Stahl Fortissima Socka Darning thread
