This sock illustrates the main danger of knitting socks from the toe up. Sometimes, one likes the pattern so well that it’s almost impossible to stop. That was the case with this sock. I was planning on just knitting a regular-length sock. But, I liked the pattern so much that it became a knee-high. I made increases to the sides of the sock (as in the pattern) and then made some sharp decreases just before the sock reached my knee. (A knee-high will take 3 skeins of yarn instead of 2.)

This sock is worked from the toe up. It has a rounded toe, a slip-stitch variation of Squeaky’s Widdershins heel, and a minimal cuff. The main stitch pattern comes from Stanfield and Griffiths’ Encyclopedia of Knitting. The pattern is sized for multiple sizes and has a tapered leg.

It is shown here in Knit Picks Stroll cocoa, blue ox heather, and shoreline twist. (My original sock was knit in cocoa. When I decided to submit the pattern to Knit Picks, I wanted to reknit the sock since the one in cocoa had been washed and worn for a couple of years. I reknit it first in blue ox heather. Then I decided that a twist yarn would bring out the feathers better and so reknit it again in a twist.)
