This light and lacy two-layer skirt for Barbie or smaller ball-jointed dolls is inspired by girly Asian street fashion and of course the many variations on Elizabeth Zimmerman’s February Baby Sweater with its swingy, vertical lace.

The pattern uses different yarn/needle combinations to achieve multiple sizes: for Barbie, Soom MiniGem, and similar sized dolls, you will need cobweb-weight yarn as well as 0.75mm and 1.5mm needles; for slim or standard Mini ball-jointed dolls, you will need laceweight yarn as well as 1.5mm and 2.25mm needles.

The gauge for slim and standard Mini is 8.5 sts & 13 rows per inch in stockinette on larger needles.

Although the two-layer skirt looks great in a smooth yarn like silk or rayon, I strongly recommend using a yarn with good “memory” and elasticity, such as something with high wool content, for the waistband, as yarns with less elasticity will not allow the skirt to stay up very well.
