This new version of my TATU (Try A Toe Up) sock pattern is written for fingering weight yarn. There are four sizes with three cuff choices: a plain 3 x 1 rib, the original TATU textured rib, and a simple eyelet rib.

As the name suggests, it would be a great pattern for a first toe-up sock for experienced cuff-down sock knitters. With many hints and links, it could also be a first sock for an intermediate knitter. Experienced toe-up knitters should also find a sock choice that they would enjoy making.

The pattern is written assuming the use of two circular needles, but could be adapted to other needle types.

Sizes: CM CL, W, M
Child’s Medium: 6-6.5” (15-17 cm) circumference; Child’s Large: 7-7.5” (18-19 cm) circumference; Women’s: 8-8.5”” (20.5-22 cm) circumference; Men’s: 9-9.5” (23-24 cm) circumference.
Note: To check size, measure foot at widest point.

Tools needed: Two US 2 (2.75mm), 16-24” circular needles, or size to obtain a gauge of 30 stitches over 4” (10cm) in stockinette stitch. Spare needle, tapestry needle, 2 stitch markers, safety pin.
Materials needed: Approximately 225, 300, 400, 485 yds (205, 275, 365, 445 m) of a fingering weight sock yarn.

The original TATU sock pattern is currently available for $2.00. It uses sport weight yarn and is written to make a women’s size only.
