Field-tested (literally) over many happy miles while walking the dog. Happy enough with version 3 to upload pattern.

Design criteria
1) Warm, light, comfortable, not bulky - no seams.
2) Mitts do not ride up or fall off.
3) Able to whistle for dog with mitts on.
4) Long enough in the hand to allow me to carry a bucket of water to the geese and have the handle sit on the mitt and not on my skin.
5) Elegant - have had requests ‘ooh, can you knit me a pair?’
6) Easy, quick and enjoyable to knit.
