These squares are festive fireworks squares, great for New Years or for the Fourth of July! While the tests were about 5-5.5 inches with an H-hook and worsted weight yarn, feel free to go smaller or larger with different weights and hook sizes! The squares are made with the overlay mosaic technique in the round, so your hook size should probably be slightly smaller than you would work with for regular crochet to keep the under stitches from showing through.

To make the fireworks effect, it is recommended to use a dark background yarn and a light foreground yarn. You will need 25-30 yards of the foreground and 40-50 yards of the background, depending on the size of your square. The small amounts of yarn make it a great stash buster! Experiment with different colors and variegated yarns.

Use these squares for anything you would make with individual squares: blankets, place mats, coasters, bags, sweaters; the sky is the limit (and the size of the charge behind the blast)!
