First Down is a crescent-shaped, kerchief-style scarf designed for 4 ounces of handspun yarn. Knit in a thick slipped rib pattern, First Down is meant to keep your neck warm while enjoying cool weather activities.

This pattern was designed for hand spun yarn as part of the 2010 4-ounce challenge. The fiber used was Spunky Eclectic’s Corriedale in the color Winnipeg and spun thick/thin in an overall bulky weight. The finished scarf used all 130 yards.

The pattern includes both written and charted instructions.

The scarf is knit from the top down and can be easily lengthened or shortened.

Skills needed: knit, purl, slip, increase, cast on and bindoff.
