A great first in-the-round project for new knitters or an ultra-quick knit (~1 hour) for experienced knitters. First Hat is knit in the round on 16-inch circulars, tapering gently at the crown, then cinching closed before decreasing enough to require a switch to DPNs. The plain design showcases self-striping, textured or handspun yarns.

A detailed photo tutorial is included.

The original was knit of 2 strands Louet Bonnie. I’ve since knit it in many yarns. Since it’s a very plain and very fast, it’s a great pattern for bulky handspun and charity knitting.

Use 2 strands of heavy worsted or chunky, or one strand of bulky or superbulky. There’s so much range of how yarn companies define their yarns that you’re best off just going by the gauge.
