Several years ago I made a pair of socks for my friend, Jean, who is a fisherwoman and a talented potter. At the time I just added the Fish Scale Lace pattern to my standard sock pattern. I kept thinking that it needed a little something else but didn’t come across anything that suited my fancy. I’ve looked at stitch patterns many times over the years since with the sock in mind but never found just the right thing until recently. I’m completely happy with the pattern now. I love the combination of stitch patterns.

Fisherwoman Socks are knit from the top down on two circular needles and combine Little Scales Stitch with Fish Scale Lace to make a hearty but feminine sock for girls who like to fish, girls who like fish, and girls who like cool hand knit socks.

Gauge:

28 sts and 40 rows = 4”/10cm in stockinette stitch on 2.5 mm needle (Turbo Addi US size 1 circular needles)

Finished Measurements:

Leg circumference: about 8.5”/21.6cm slightly stretched
Foot circumference: about 8.5”/21.6cm slightly stretched

Sizing:

The pattern as written fits a women’s size shoe size 7-9/38-40. To increase or decrease the circumference of the sock increase or decrease in increments of 4 stitches for Tiny Scales Stitch (see below). For the length of your sock try it on and when it is about 1.5/3.8cm inches from the end of your toes begin the toe decrease. To make a smaller size (shoe size 5-7/35-37) I decreased the number of stitches by 4, did one less repeat of the FSL panel on the leg and the foot and decreased the heel flap rows by 4.
