Sorry, this pattern is no longer available and I no longer have any of the rights to it - Knitting Today still has the rights even though they aren’t still in business. The stitch pattern that I used in my fish hat was from Mellissa Leapman’s “Color Knitting the easy way” book. I had to convert it to a stitch pattern in the round instead of flat. (This is also the same pattern as I used in my Pinecone Cap, which is available through Interweave and was made in the round). Also my hat was made from tail to mouth in order to have the scales going the right way. I’m really sorry that I can’t make this pattern available to you but I hope that you can figure something out!

Please note that there is a section of stockinette missing from the head section in the pattern. Right before working the short rows section work 10 (12) rounds of stockinette stitch. There is also a tip on working the slipstitch pattern. Click on the ERRATA link above for details.

I was inspired by the fish hat craze as led by Thelma Egbert’s design Fish Hat, and a slipstitch pattern that looked like scales when I made these silly hats.

You won’t need rods and reels to catch these whoppers.
