Fiskhamnen (fish harbour) mittens are named after a neighbourhood in eastern Helsinki. The neighbourhood is a partly artificial peninsula surrounded by the sea and several small islands. These mittens work well with only two colors, but you could also try using up your scrap yarn, knitting each stripe with a different color. The mittens are knitted top down, and they have an interesting diagonal thumb gusset.

Sizing: Average women’s size. The circumreference is 18,5cm (7 1/4 inches) and the length from wrist to the tip 18,5 cm (7 1/4 inches). Instructions for lengthening the mitten are given in the pattern.

Materials: 50 g (137 yards) sport weight wool or wool blend yarn in main color (MC), and 50 g in contrasting color (CC).
The sample was knitted with Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino (50g = 125 m/137 yards), dark blue 340008 (MC) and off white 340012 (CC).

Skill level: Intermediate. The pattern includes knitting in round, KFB, Judy’s magic cast on, EZ’s sewn bind off and stranding. Colorwork instructions are charted, the construction written.
