Flapper Cloche

November 2016
Worsted (9 wpi) ?
22 stitches and 44 rows = 4 inches
in garter st, blocked
US 6 - 4.0 mm
220 yards (201 m)
20" (51 cm) circumference at the brim and 8" (20.5 cm) tall (from brim to crown).

Inspired by the ever graceful and chic cloche hat of the 1920s, this flirty topper will never go out of style. The deep garter stitch brim is worked with short−rows so that it curves at the beginning and end, creating an overlapping fan shape. Stitches are picked up along the brim and worked in garter ridge, which smoothly transitions to stockinette stitch.

20” (51 cm) circumference at the brim and 8” (20.5 cm) tall (from brim to crown).

Worsted weight (#4 Medium).
Shown here: Cascade 220 Heathers (100% Peruvian highland wool; 220 yd 200 m/3½ oz 100 g): #9642 Crushed Grapes, 1 skein.

Size U.S. 6 (4 mm): 16” (40 cm) circular (cir) and set of 4 or 5 double−pointed (dpn).
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

22 sts and 44 rows = 4” (10 cm) in garter st, blocked.
