After several of my store-bought cable throw blankets fell apart due to the same design flaws, I became motivated to make something better and this is it!

This pattern has visible cables on both sides and staggered cabling so there is no delicate tension across the cable cross rows and a polished i-cord edge border.

The i-cord cast-on and bind-off edges do flare and ripple as you are knitting, but block out flat. If you prefer, you can simply work k2p2 ribbing for 2 inches at the top and bottom instead of i-cords. This would be especially useful if you cannot block your yarn of choice because of its fiber content.

Gauge is measured from a blocked swatch that was knit in pattern.

My sample is worked in Cascade Ecological Wool, a two ply bulky weight yarn and the blanket uses about 4.20 skeins. This yarn comes in several beautiful undyed colorways that compliment the pattern nicely.

I will be adding an additional weight yarn option in Lion Brand Fisherman’s wool once the sample is completed. For now, the pattern is easily modifiable in height and width by simply working additional or fewer chart repeats.

If unfamiliar with the i-cord cast-on and bind-off, I can recommend the following video tutorials until I can make my own. I hope their creators won’t mind the extra views on their videos !
