As of 07/23 the pattern has been updated to include instructions for both an afterthought heel, and a gusseted heel. Enjoy!

This pattern was designed to honor the bravery of all the knitters who are judged instead of celebrated for what they look like, or who they love. As artists we all have the responsibility to choose to spread and promote love with our crafts, or to perpetuate hate. At Lattes & Llamas we choose love and support. We challenge you to do the same.

We see you.

We support you.

You matter.

The socks are knit inside out. Worked cuff down, they feature your choice of an afterthought heel or an Eye of the Partidge gusseted heel. After knitting the leg and foot, you’ll break your yarn and turn them inside out to let their hidden pattern show. The pattern depends on a heavily variegated yarn, and is a great opportunity to try a colorway that’s a little outside of your comfort zone.

I used Lattes & Llamas Twinkle Toes Yarn Kits to knit my socks, in colorway “Rainbow Bright”. You’ll want a bold variegate or heavily speckled yarn to really get the most out of this pattern. The contrast toe and heel are optional, but recommended. They add a fun little pop!

Difficulty
This pattern is just right for an adventurous beginner-advanced/expert knitters. For a seasoned sock knitter it will be a breeze. If this is your first sock it will be a fun challenge, but totally doable, the stitches are not complex. Before starting this pattern you should be comfortable with:

  • Working in the Round
  • Increasing stitches using KFB (knit into the front and back of the stitch)
  • Decreasing stitches using SSK and K2tog
  • Picking up stitches from a waste yarn holder.
  • The pattern calls for a Twisted German Caston (link to video tutorial is in the pattern) but this is an OPTIONAL skill. You can use the long tail cast on of your choice.
