I’m not often demonstrative about my beliefs or my politics, but that doesn’t mean I don’t feel strongly. I believe it is a human right to be the person you wish to be, to love the person you wish to love, and in so doing, to be free from fear and persecution.
I will be watching these Sochi Olympics because I am a patriot, because Canada has some fantastic athletes, and because those athletes are striving to be the people they want to be, and they are deserving of my support. But I will also be watching with a wary and guarded eye, worried about our LGBTQ athletes and their families, as well as the Russian LGBTQ folk who are not free in a great many respects.
Starting February 6 - a day before opening ceremonies - and continuing until February 24 - a day after closing ceremonies - I will donate 50% of each sale of any of my patterns to http://egale.ca/ This organization does great work on behalf of LGBTQ folk, and I especially appreciate their work with youth across the country, and their advocacy for transpeople.
I thank you for your support,

This pattern creates a pair of quick-to-knit fingerless mitts in a cosy, inexpensive bulky wool. Add a strand of laceweight mohair for a touch of softness and colour. Or knit them entirely out of a bulky-weight mohair for a warm and fluffy alternative.

One skein of the Cascade Eco or Eco+ is enough to knit four pairs of these mitts. Share a skein with a friend or two. :)

A crochet hook is used only to work a short chain at the top of the mitt that is then formed into a loop buttonhole. Complete crochet-phobes could work a 2-stitch I-cord instead.
