You’ll be on cloud nine with this soft and cosy blanket, featuring fluffy little clouds in a blue summer sky.

Fluffy White Clouds is a baby blanket inspired by those perfect spring days where the clouds drift through the sky.

The blanket is knitted in stocking stitch using the intarsia technique to incorporate the clouds.
The blanket measures 90.5 × 67 cm (35.5 × 26.5 in), sized to fit a pram, crib, cot or Moses basket, with a 2.5 cm (1 in) moss stitch border to prevent curling. The border is knitted at the same time as the rest of the blanket, minimising the amount of finishing needed.

Fluffy White Clouds is knitted in aran weight yarn, allowing the blanket to be completed relatively quickly while not making the blanket too warm.

Materials and tools required

  • 5 mm (US 8) circular needle at least 80 cm (31 in) in length
  • Aran weight yarn in each of the following colours and amounts: MC (blue): 540 m/600 yds; CC (cream): 190 m/210 yds
  • 4 stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • Bobbins for holding the different yarn colours during colourwork

The sample is knitted in West Yorkshire Spinners Aran Blue Faced Leicester Aran (100% wool, 83 m/91 yds per 50 g ball) in Bluebell (MC) and Snowdrop (CC).
