Who can take their eyes off a flock of birds gracefully taking off into the air? It is a marvellous sight that stops most people in their tracks.

Flutter Up Shawl catches the movement of the birds on their way up, translated into a delicate, rectangular shawl made with light fingering or lace weight yarn.

The birds are worked with simple eyelets from a chart or written instructions. All wrong side rows are purled. The size is easily adaptable by working the desired number of repeats of the Hummingbird Chart.

The sample shawl shown here is made with approx. 750 yds (690 m) of light fingering weight yarn. Other yarn weights are possible; simply adjust the needle size and yardage requirements.

Size: 18.5 x 59” or 47 x 150 cm.

Each pattern repeat adds approx. 12” or 30 cm in length, using 150 yds or 135 m of light fingering yarn on US size 4 or 3.5mm needles.
