Forest Spirits, or Kodama as the Japanese know them, are beings that inhabit the trees, said to have supernatural powers. They can be either blessed or cursed depending on if they are well worshiped and honored. They are known to protect houses and villages that treat them properly. Many of you have probably seen them in Japanese cartoons or anime. With that inspiration in mind, I created the Forest Spirit Sweater.

This sweater is made with tapestry crochet, using 3 colors of yarn to produce the picture. I used yarn under hdc to produce the sample sweater. Yarn under hdc are a tighter stitch than regular hdc, and I feel they look better when used in tapestry crochet.

The pattern has directions for sizes S - 4XL, 32” - 59” bust, with 9” - 12” positive ease. This ease gives the sweater a nice, loose fit. But, you can easily knit a smaller size to make a tighter fit or a larger size for an even more oversized sweater.

The sample sweater was crocheted with Knit Picks/We Crochet Wool of the Andes Sport weight 2 yarn. Sport weight is a great type of yarn for tapesty work because it is thin enough to get a lot of detail into the top without being too bulky.

I hope you all enjoy creating the whimsical Forest Spirits on your sweaters!
