I had the good fortune to take a sock design class from Cookie A in January 2010. For the class, she had a stack of pattern books from which we could choose our knit pattern, if we didn’t have one already in mind. As I was flipping through the pages, this pattern jumped out at me, I had to design a sock with this pattern. We (Cookie and I) fiddled with the stitch count and row count until it fit the cast on number I needed. These socks knit up quickly as the pattern is easy to memorize and keep track of as you knit along. I have incorporated the ribbing into the first round repeat, as I find it keeps the continuity between the ribbing and leg pattern. This pattern leads to a cozy fitting sock that has lots of elasticity. I named these Fortune Cookies because the pattern looks like little fortune cookies when knit up (at least to me) and it’s also a nod to herself, Cookie A.
