Fortune Seeker is the second sock pattern in my pattern collection Welcome to Sweden - knitwear inspired by swedish nature and culture.

The Fortune Seeker socks are inspired by the great emigration. From the end of the 19th century to the begninning of the 20th century not less than 1.3 milion Swedish citizens left Sweden for America. They left a country where many couldn’t feed their family, they left to seek their fortune in the states. Most of them became farmers, most of them in the state of Minnesota, where the climate and nature was similar to the one in Sweden.

These socks were inspired by their journey, the dwindling way from their homes in Sweden to new, unbroken ground in America.

The sock is worked from the top down with a picoté hem at the top. The cables are made without cable needle, you are instructed how to in the pattern. The heel has the same kind of embellishment as the rest of the sock. The toe is grafted with kitchener stitch.
