Forward Loop Chains and Limpets by Sue Perez

Forward Loop Chains and Limpets

This pattern is available for free.

An exciting alternative to standard chain stitches - no more struggling to get your hook into those tight little chains!

Forward Loop Chain…

  • Can replace standard chain stitches on many projects
  • Automatically creates almost perfect tension for the following row - no need to change hook size
  • Is amazingly easy to work into from either side
  • Is stretchier than a standard chain
  • Is sturdier than a standard chain
  • Will not curl when used for loops or picots
  • Perfect for crochet jewelry projects where a standard chain might be flimsy
  • Highly recommended for straight-edged projects such as table runners, blankets, or cushion covers (but not for tension-bearing edges that will be repeatedly stretched)

Knitters: Can also be used as alternative to knitted cast-on. Easy to pick up stitches from either edge!

Works best with stable and/or grippy yarns. If using a slippery yarn or one that tends to compress - swatch first, keep your forlpchs very firm, and consider decreasing hook size (I know, hard to believe!).
