Foundation is a lightweight garter stitch kerchief with tassels, designed to be a great pattern for beginners and experts alike.

It’s a great introduction to shaped knitwear, and a way to practice increasing and decreasing if you’ve never done that before, or if you’re more experienced, Foundation is a great palate cleanser or small project to use that special skein on!

Because sometimes you just want to make sure you’re on the right track, stitch counts for each section are included.

The size is easily adaptable, but keep in mind that Foundation is designed to use every last bit of yarn, so if your gauge is larger you won’t get as many repeats in, or you’d like a larger kerchief, you will need more yarn.

Materials needed:
One skein or ~450 yards of lace or fingering weight yarn
US 4 (3.5mm) 24” circular needles
4 stitch markers
1 progress keeper or safety pin (optional but helpful!)
Tapestry needle

Techniques you’ll use/learn:
Garter tab cast on
