Created to compliment Lyrical Knits’ Fractured Fairy Tale Hat and Mitten patterns, this cowl has expanded color charts where the floral motif is worked twice—the second time with an inverted color chart.

One size is offered in heavy sportweight/light DK yarn, but further adjustments in sizing can be achieved by altering the gauge and/or weight of the yarn as well as adding/subtracting length to the single-color sections.

The cowl is worked by first casting on stitches with a provisional cast on, and knitting entirely in the round following color charts. The end of your knitting is then grafted to the cast on stitches using the Kitchener Stitch.

Because the cowl has sections of 2-color stranded knitting as well as single-color stockinette stitch sections, it is important to maintain the same gauge between each of these sections. Most knitters will have a tighter stitch gauge in stranded colorwork than they do in single-color stockinette stitch with the same yarn and needle size. Therefore, be sure to check your gauge in both the stranded colorwork and single-color sections since you may need to change needle size when working the single color sections. For example, I worked the stranded sections with size 6 needles, but had to go down to size 4 for the single-color sections in order to maintain the 25 sts/4” gauge.
