“Frayed Basket”
This design is created with the character Geillis Duncan from the Outlander story at its heart.

I wanted to design something that both encapsulates her quirky ways and that also depicts her interest in green witchcraft.

The shawl is composed of easy knit and purl stitches that come together to create a basket kind of weave pattern in respect of the gathering and foraging baskets she would carry.

The sides to the shawl are finished differently so that one side steps down in its decrease while the other is a slow reduction, I did this as I wanted the idea of the basket to be uneven and unique rather like Geillis herself.

The shawl can be worn wrapped around the shoulders and pinned at the front or just laid around the shoulders. The finished length whilst allowing the arms to move freely in the chosen yarn weight gives warmth and comfort to the upper back and shoulders.

The pattern, as always is written row by row with no charts and is suitable for a beginner upwards.
