An old school friend asked me to knit a thick, heavy cable hat next winter’s cold weather. Because I have a strong tendency to think all my knits thorough, I decided to write a pattern too. The hat includes a high ribbing for the better adaptability. You can knit a longer or shorter version of the hat and adjust the right size for you.

YARN:
Red hat (first pictures on pattern page): Adriafill, Stella Alpina Edelweis classic; 50g=100m, colour 48, 3 skeins with pompom or 116 g for the hat only

Yellow hat (see picture from pattern): Schachenmayr Original, Merino Extrafine 85; 50 g= 85 m, colour 00226, 3 skeins with pompom or 130 g for the hat only
You can replace the yarn with some other yarn which has same thickness and is soft enough for the user of the hat.

NEEDLES:
4 mm (US 6) and 5 mm (US 8), 40 or 50 cm circular needles. You might also need 5 mm (US 8) double point needles for the decreases. Choose needles to obtain the specified gauge.

GAUGE:
18 sts and 30 rows= 10 cm (4 in) stockinette stitch with smaller needles
17 sts and 23 rows= 10 cm (4 in) stockinette stitch with larger needles

SIZE:
Adult. You can adjust the size by choosing larger or smaller needles.

If you want, you can make a pompom for leftover hat yarn or other spare yarn.
